ClientChat
Client
This client was created with Python3.4.x, to run this client download Python 3.4.0 below. Other 3.x versions of Python may work but are not tested.
Scroll to the "Files" section of the page and select the correct download for your platform.
Download the client below.
To run the client,
- Windows
- Press Windows Key -> Type 'cmd' -> Press Enter
- In cmd traverse to the directory where the client.py was downloaded (us 'cd' + space + 'dir' to go to directory, ex. 'cd C:\Users\\Downloads\' should put you in the right directory)
- Run the Client with Python. The command will be ' client.py'. On windows the default path for v3.4.x is 'C:\Python34\python.exe'
- Linux
- Open Terminal
- Usually in Linux the python environment variables are set upon installation (via yum, apt-get repos). Therefore you should only have to traverse to the directory holding client.py (download)
- Type 'python34 client.py'
- Client should start. Note type 'python34 client.py &' to force execution in the background and maintain control of your terminal window.
This client hasn't been tested on Mac but following similar steps as those above should work on OSX as well.
Server
Again, developed in Python 3.4, has not been tested with other versions.
Download server.py
Run via command line (similar to above) with the following parameters (in order),
- hostname - name of the host to listen on (typically localhost or '', use local host for '')
- port - port to listen to
- recv_amt - max bytes received by the server 4096 is plenty for simple chat
Running the script with no parameters, or too few parameters, will print this similar information as a usage message.
